Chaos on Hampshire Motorway After Lorry Overturns in Fierce Winds
A major Hampshire motorway is in total gridlock this lunchtime after a dust cart lorry was blown over by strong winds near a busy junction. Emergency crews rushed to the scene just after 11am following reports of the overturned vehicle between junctions 11 and 12.
Traffic Nightmare Unfolds
Police have shut off all traffic from Fareham trying to join the motorway. The lorry lies stranded in lane three of the busy eastbound carriageway, causing mayhem.
Firefighters from Fareham and Cosham were quick to respond, making the scene safe. But despite their efforts, two lanes – 2 and 3 – remain closed eastbound. The jam is stretching for miles as drivers try to get past.
Specialist Teams and Ambulance Called In
South Central Ambulance has deployed their HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) to the scene. Although reports suggested an air ambulance landing, this did not take place. Fire crews secured the area while a specialist recovery firm from Boarhunt was called in for the major cleanup.
Westbound Lanes Also Hit
Adding to the chaos, one lane of the westbound carriageway near the crash site remains shut. Motorists are warned the eastbound carriageway closures could last until 7pm or later tonight.
Commuters are urged to expect delays and seek alternative routes where possible.
