A terrifying collision between two double-decker buses has left several people injured on Newington Causeway, Southwark.

The crash happened just after 8am, prompting an immediate emergency response. The road is closed both ways as police, ambulance, and fire crews work at the scene.

Emergency Services React

The Metropolitan Police were called at 8:06am on Wednesday 18 February 2026. London Ambulance Service and Fire Brigade teams were rapidly dispatched.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson confirmed: “Officers are responding to a collision between two buses in Newington Causeway, Southwark. A number of people were treated on scene with injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made while investigations continue.”

The London Ambulance Service added: “We attended with ambulance crews, the hazardous area response team, and the London Air Ambulance. Several patients are being treated at the scene.”

London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters arrived following reports of the crash near Avonmouth Street and Newington Causeway. Two buses collided, causing slight damage to a nearby building including the Southwark Playhouse. Crews made the scene safe and supported ambulance staff. The incident was declared over by 10am.”
