Two German Shepherd Pups Stolen in Bold Sparkbrook Heist
West Midlands Police are on the hunt after two German Shepherd puppies were snatched from a home in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The theft happened on Tuesday, September 24, around 10:30 a.m., near Ladypool Road.
Puppies Taken Without a Penny
The pups, just 14 weeks old, were advertised for sale online by their owner. When potential buyers turned up, the suspects didn’t pay – they simply walked off with the puppies. Police have released images of two men they want to question in connection with the case.
“We urge anyone who recognises these men or spots the puppies being sold to contact us immediately,” said a West Midlands Police spokesperson.
Anyone with information should contact West Midlands Police via LiveChat or call 101, quoting reference number 20/758034/24.
Rising Tide of Dog Theft in the UK
This theft is part of a worrying spike in dog crime across the country. The Pet Theft Census reveals over 2,000 dogs were stolen in 2023, a 20% jump from 2022. High-value breeds like German Shepherds are prime targets for crooks cashing in on the booming black market.
How to Keep Your Pets Safe

- Microchip Your Pet: Always keep your contact details up to date.
- Lock Down Your Property: Ensure your home and garden are secure to stop thieves getting in easily.
- Stay Safe Online: When selling pets, only meet buyers in public, safe locations.
West Midlands Police continue to investigate this bold theft and urge anyone with tips to come forward without delay.
