Scam Busters Hit Victory School to Take Down Fraudsters
Local MP Tracey Crouch hosted a fraud prevention event at Victory School in Chatham on Friday, April 8, 2022. Officers Stephen Kelly, Sophie Carroll, and Robert Slade spoke to locals about spotting scams and protecting themselves from fraud.
Fraud Prevention Team Spreads Scam Awareness
The trio handed out leaflets and shared insights on the latest scam trends hitting the area. Fraud Prevention Officer Stephen Kelly said the event was a “really good opportunity” to warn the public about the growing danger.
“Anyone of any age can be a victim of fraud. We want to use every chance to get the message out there,” Kelly said.
Fraudsters Evolve – So Must We
Kelly explained scammers are clever criminals who change tactics to exploit situations like Covid-19. The scale of organised fraud is huge, but awareness is a key weapon to fight back.
Don’t Be Embarrassed – Report Scams
The officers urged victims not to stay silent, as embarrassment often stops people from reporting crimes. Kelly reassured victims:
“There is no judgement. These fraudsters are calculating and we understand why people fall for their schemes. Reporting scams helps us spot crime trends and stop others getting caught.”
For anyone worried about fraud, the team recommends reporting incidents immediately to help the fight against criminals targeting our communities.
