Meadowbank Recreation Ground Dorking sealed off as police launch probe after body recovered from river by fire crews

Fire crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue have been sent to Rothes Road in Dorking to assist police after a body was discovered in a stretch of water near Dorking’s Meadowbank Recreation Ground. A police cordon remained in place

It is understood that a member of the public called the police after spotting the body floating in the water. It is not yet known how the person came to be in the water, or how long they had been there. A number of officers have taped off a section of the bank whilst investigations continue. A specialist water rescue boat has also been mobilised to the scene to assist fire crews from Dorking and Leatherhead. Surrey police have yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Police have placed a wide cordon around where the body has been recovered from. A large blue tarpaulin has also been erected near a seating area on the river side. Detectives from Surrey police have called on partners from the nearby NAPAS Redhill to carry out arial surveillance in the area the deceased was recovered from.
