Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Hits 8,000 Missions!
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has just smashed a massive milestone – 8,000 life-saving flights! On 1 August, Dr Liz Shewry, Specialist Critical Care Paramedics Mike Funge and Oliver Saddler, along with Pilot Marcus Doyle, flew the charity’s 8,000th mission.
Over a Decade of Heroic Rescue Flights
It all began 11 years ago, and since then the air ambulance crew have raced to help thousands in desperate need. “Eight thousand call-outs means 8,000 people reached in their hour of need,” said Alex Lochrane, Chief Executive of the air ambulance.
Powered by Community Generosity, Not Government Cash
This heroic service runs solely on donations — it receives no government funding. Lochrane added, “We are not government funded. Our Charity is run entirely on donations from the community, for the community.”
“I am truly grateful to anyone who puts some pennies in one of our collection pots, plays our Charity Lottery, donates monthly or takes on one of our fundraising challenges. Any donation, big or small, makes such a difference.”
