Horror Crash Closes A3 Hindhead Tunnel Northbound
The A3 Hindhead Tunnel northbound is shut after a serious single-vehicle smash near Thursley last night. Surrey Roads Policing officers scrambled to the scene shortly after 9pm, where a black Renault Clio had careened off the road.
Fire Crews Battle to Free Trapped Woman
Firefighters from Surrey and Hampshire rushed to the crash, using cutting gear to rescue a female driver trapped inside. They had to remove the windscreen and driver’s door to free her. She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Northbound Tunnel Still Closed – Diversions in Place
The entire northbound carriageway through the Hindhead Tunnel remains closed as emergency teams and police accident investigators work through the night. Highways England warns the road won’t reopen until around 6.15am Friday.
Traffic is being diverted via the ‘Solid Diamond’ route:
- From A3 Longmoor off-slip, take first exit onto A325.
- Follow A325 through to A31/A325 roundabout, Farnham.
- At roundabout, take third exit onto A31 towards Farnham.
- Continue on A31 to Shepherd and Flock roundabout.
- Take third exit, follow A31 for 7 miles towards Guildford.
- Use lane marked A3 (London) to rejoin A3 northbound.
Road users are urged to allow extra travel time or find alternative routes.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
“We’re dealing with a serious collision involving a single vehicle on the A3 near Thursley,” a Surrey Police spokesman said. “The female driver was trapped after the crash and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The carriageway remains closed. If you witnessed the collision or have information, please contact Surrey Police on 101 quoting incident number P17264773.”
