Body Found in Sea Off Isle of Wight After Ferry Crew Spot Person in Water

A body was pulled from the sea off the Isle of Wight on Sunday evening after a Brittany Ferry crew spotted someone in the water.

RNLI and Coastguard Launch Urgent Search

The RNLI was called out at 4.30pm following the ferry crew’s alert. A coastguard helicopter and an RNLI lifeboat scrambled to the scene near the main shipping channel, south-east of Bembridge.

Woman Recovered but Identity Unknown

By 7.45pm, the Bembridge RNLI crew had recovered a woman onboard after the helicopter spotted her. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Officers are working to determine the identity of the person and how they ended up in the water.”

They added the case is currently being treated as unexplained.
