Fire Breaks Out in Wandsworth Prison Cell
Firefighters rushed to Wandsworth Prison on Heathfield Road after a cell inside the prison hospital went up in flames just before 6pm on Wednesday.
Quick Response Quells Blaze
The fire took hold quickly but was put out in around 20 minutes. Prison staff acted fast to extinguish the small cell blaze before it could spread.
Inmate Treated for Smoke Inhalation
One prisoner suffered from smoke inhalation but did not need hospital treatment. Thanks to the prison’s ventilation system, no other inmates were affected or had to be evacuated.
“A small cell 1 at HMP Wandsworth was quickly extinguished by prison staff. The fire brigade attended as a matter of routine and there were no reported injuries,” a Prison Service spokesperson confirmed.
