Blaze Breaks Out Near Ingrebourne River in Rainham – Eight Fire Engines Battle Major Grass Fire
A huge grass fire has erupted next to the Ingrebourne River, close to Farm Road, Rainham, sparking a major emergency call-out this evening.
Eight Fire Engines Rush to Scene
The London Fire Brigade confirmed that eight fire engines were scrambled to tackle the fast-spreading blaze, first reported just before 5:00pm. The fire is raging through a large swathe of grassland and scrub near the gates into fields off Farm Road.
Fire Threatens Riverbank and Homes
The flames are dangerously close to the riverbank and nearby residential areas, raising alarm for local residents. Smoke has been seen drifting across parts of South Hornchurch and Rainham.
Residents Warned to Steer Clear
“Crews are currently working to bring a large grass fire under control in Rainham. Eight pumps are on scene near the Ingrebourne River. Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors shut if you’re nearby,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
So far, no injuries have been reported. Police and emergency services are on site managing traffic and ensuring public safety as the battle to contain the blaze continues.
