Blaze Breaks Out in Isle of Wight Chimney Fire
Three fire engines raced to Brightstone village on the Isle of Wight after a chimney fire broke out this evening. Fire crews from Newport and Freshwater were called to a property on Chilton Lane just after 6pm on Tuesday.
Flames Spread Into Wall Cavity
The fire started in the chimney flue but quickly spread into the wall cavity. Several firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property after the homeowner was alerted by a working smoke alarm.
Quick Action Prevents Major Disaster
Thanks to the swift response of the first crews on scene, the fire was contained and prevented from spreading further. Firefighters tackled the blaze using specialist chimney gear, a hose reel, hand tools, and thermal imaging cameras to locate hidden hot spots.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Crews were mobilised at 6.18pm to a chimney fire. We sent two appliances from Newport and one from Freshwater. Firefighting operations are ongoing at the property.”
