Shock as Double-Decker Bus Crashes After Driver Has Seizure in Oakley

A double-decker bus crashed spectacularly in Oakley after the driver suffered a seizure and lost control. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Andover Road, which remains shut both ways.

Chaos on the B3400: Bus Overturns, Major Emergency Response

The crash happened just before noon on the busy B3400, Andover Road. Hampshire Roads Policing, South Central Ambulance Service, and Hampshire Fire & Rescue rolled in with a massive emergency response. Fire crews from Overton, Whitchurch, and Basingstoke – including four fire engines and rescue support vehicles – tackled the scene.

A road closure is in place between Deane Park and Oakley Village, causing major disruption. Drivers are urged to steer clear of the area.

Casualty Toll: Five Seriously Hurt, Several Others Injured

Police confirm 19 people were on the bus at the time. Five suffered serious injuries, six minor, and eight escaped unhurt. Two critically injured patients were rushed to the major trauma unit at University Hospital southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton, while others were taken to local hospitals.

“We received multiple 999 calls just before 12.00 today reporting an accident involving a double decker bus on the B3400,” said South Central Ambulance Service.

The force are working with partners to clear the scene as quickly as possible but warn the closure will last until this evening.

The driver had a seizure, causing the crash, but their current condition remains unknown. Fire crews are carrying out scene safety checks and assessing if anyone is trapped. Ambulance and rescue teams have been on high alert, with 10 ambulances and specialist response units attending.
