Gal Gadot’s ‘Imagine’ Video Slammed for Tone Deaf Timing

The Wonder Woman star tried to spread hope during the early days of the pandemic – but her celeb singalong quickly backfired.

Star-Studded Stunt Sparks Backlash

Gal Gadot brought together A-listers like Natalie Portman, Jamie Dornan, and Sia for a video of John Lennon’s classic “Imagine.” The clip, viewed over two million times on Instagram, was meant to uplift during Covid isolation. But viewers branded it “tone deaf” as it dropped just before the UK’s first official lockdown in March 2020.

“We are in this together, we will get through it together,” Gadot captioned the hopeful video. Yet fans weren’t buying it.

Gadot Admits It Missed the Mark

In a candid chat with InStyle, the 36-year-old Israeli actress confessed, “It was premature. It wasn’t the right timing, and it wasn’t the right thing. It was in poor taste. All pure intentions, but sometimes you don’t hit the bull’s-eye.”

At the time, Gadot had been isolated for six days and felt “philosophical” about the global crisis. But hindsight showed the heartfelt effort was badly timed as the pandemic’s grim reality hit home.

Gadot’s Playful Response

Trying to defuse the drama, Gadot cheekily broke into another rendition of “Imagine” while accepting an award at the Elle Women in Hollywood event. “I don’t take myself too seriously,” she said. “That event was a delightful opportunity to take the air out of it.”

Who Joined the Karaoke?

Besides Gadot, the quarantine choir included:

  • Ashley Benson
  • Lynda Carter
  • Jimmy Fallon
  • Will Ferrell

The good vibes were genuine, even if the timing wasn’t.
