Drama at Limehouse Link Tunnel: Emergency crews raced to East London in the early hours after a person threatened to jump from the westbound tunnel entrance.
Lockdown on Limehouse Link
The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and Fire Brigade all descended on the scene near Aspen Way just after 12:14am Tuesday. The westbound carriageway of the Limehouse Link Tunnel was shut immediately as negotiators scrambled to defuse the crisis.
Queues quickly formed, snarling traffic on Aspen Way and nearby routes including Commercial Road and the roads leading to Canary Wharf. Drivers were warned to steer clear and find alternative routes.
Police Tackle Mental Health Emergency
A source confirmed this was a mental health incident. They said:
“Officers remain on scene at the Limehouse Link Tunnel dealing with a concern for the welfare of an individual. Road closures are in place and drivers are urged to seek alternative routes.”
Public Told: Don’t Share Images
Authorities appealed to onlookers not to post photos or videos online out of respect for privacy and wellbeing.
As of 1:00am, the road was still closed and no official update has been given on whether the person was brought down safely.
