Driver Trapped After Vehicle Rolls Up Embankment
An overturned car has come to rest up an embankment near Membury services. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of the crash just before midnight on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses say the driver suffered a suspected medical episode seconds before losing control. Paramedics are performing CPR cycles as the driver remains trapped in the wreckage, having gone into cardiac arrest.
Tragically, the motorist is believed to have sustained life-changing injuries.

Wiltshire Police are heading the emergency response to this severe collision. Officers have warned the closure will last all night, with no reopening expected soon.
Official Diversion Route for Stranded Drivers
- Exit the M4 at Junction 14.
- Take the first roundabout exit onto the A338.
- At the A4 mini-roundabout, turn right onto the A4, bypassing Hungerford town centre.
- At the next roundabout, take the second exit onto Charnham Park.
- Turn right onto the B4192 and continue for 13 miles through Aldbourne to the A419 roundabout.
- Take the first exit onto the A419 to rejoin the M4 at Junction 15.
Drivers are advised to follow signs marked with a hollow square diversion symbol to avoid the closed stretch.
