Lisa, 32, disappeared on November 4, 2015, from her home in Guadiaro, San Roque, near the luxury resort of Sotogrande in Cádiz, Spain. Originally from Alexandria, Dumbarton in Scotland, Lisa had moved to Spain to start a new life.
Last Seen at Home Before Alarm Raised
Authorities were alerted four days later when Lisa failed to pick up her 8-year-old son from school. Early signs pointed to a violent incident at her home before she vanished. The investigation quickly zeroed in on her former boyfriend, Simon Corner.
Ex-Boyfriend Flees, Arrested and Released
- Simon was questioned but fled Spain shortly after.
- After being released from custody, he disappeared from the marinas where he worked on yachts.
- Spain’s Civil Guard launched extensive land and sea searches.
- Forensic teams sealed off Lisa’s home for DNA analysis, aided by UK police.
- Simon was arrested in Denmark in April 2016 and extradited back to Spain.
- Despite imprisonment, he was later released without charge.
Community Suspicion & Legal Drama
Other locals have also been questioned and arrested in connection with Lisa’s disappearance. In late 2017, the main suspect broke bail conditions, prompting a European Arrest Warrant.
A month later, Simon was arrested on arrival at Heathrow Airport, expected to be extradited for trial. But shockingly, the case was dropped days later due to insufficient evidence. No charges were filed despite his six months on the run.
Family Hopes Rise and Fall
In October 2018, Lisa’s family were heartened to hear the case against Simon would be reopened. Sadly, those hopes were crushed when Spanish legal advisers confirmed he would not face prosecution.
