Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Up After Shocking Attempted Accosting in Witham
Late-Night Scare on Maldon Road
Police are hunting witnesses after a late-night attempted accosting in Witham on Tuesday, 30 June. Around 9.15pm, a teenage girl was walking near the Gulf petrol station on Maldon Road when a silver Ford Transit van pulled up alongside her.
A man hopped out from the passenger side and tried to engage with her in a disturbing incident.
Suspects Described: Beware the Ford Transit Duo
- Passenger: White male, late 40s, large build, short brown hair, stubbly beard. Wearing a black hooded jumper, black work trousers, and steel toe cap boots.
- Driver: White male, 40s, slim, medium-length light brown hair, short beard, dressed in dark clothing.
The unwanted encounter was interrupted by a brave passer-by, causing the passenger to return to the van and speed off.
Hero Witness Could Hold Key to Case
Police want to track down the good Samaritan who stepped in. He’s described as a white man in his 50s with long grey hair, wearing a cream jumper. The victim recalls he may have introduced himself as Richard.
