M25 Shutdown: Sinkholes and Crash Close Motorway Between J4 and J5
The M25 has been slammed shut between junction 4 and junction 5 after a single-vehicle crash uncovered dangerous sinkholes in the central reservation.
Kent Roads Policing officers swiftly closed the stretch and are now waiting on a Highways England road inspector. The culprit? A serious carriageway defect forcing a full closure in both directions.
Chaos on the Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise Routes
Highways England has rolled out detailed diversion routes for drivers caught in the gridlock.
- Clockwise traffic: Follow the “Hollow Triangle” signs. Exit at J4, then take the 2nd exit onto the M25 link towards London. Head through Hewitts roundabout and on via A224 and A25 roundabouts, weaving through Riverhead before rejoining the M25 at J5 heading towards Gatwick.
- Anti-clockwise traffic: Follow the “Hollow Square” diversion signs. From J5, take the A21 towards Sevenoaks, then the A25 to Riverhead. Navigate several roundabouts before returning to the M25 at J4 bound for Dartford Crossing.
Officials on Scene, Repairs Underway
Kent Police are managing the scene while Highways England contractors race to fix the sinkhole mess. Drivers are urged to stay alert and follow official diversion signs.
