A fire tore through a mid-terraced carpentry workshop late last night, causing heavy damage at an industrial unit. Firefighters raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at 11.35 p.m.

Gas Cylinders Cooled to Stop Explosions

As a safety measure, crews cooled seven gas and adhesive cylinders to room temperature before removing them. These cylinders posed a serious explosion risk if heated.

Thankfully, no one was hurt during the blaze.

Fire stations from Forest Hill, Beckenham, Lewisham, Bromley, and West Norwood rushed to battle the flames. The fire was finally extinguished by 1.15 a.m.

Ventilation System Blamed for Accidental Fire

Investigators believe the fire started accidentally in the building’s ventilation system, sparking the dangerous blaze.
