Strictly Come Dancing’s longest-serving female professional, Karen Hauer, is set to star in the new tap dance comedy Stepping Out at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre. The show runs from September 22 to 26 and follows a group of amateur tap dancers preparing for a charity gala performance.

Comedy With A Tap Twist

Stepping Out is a heart-warming play by Richard Harris about ordinary people overcoming clumsy rehearsals and setbacks to achieve something extraordinary through dance. Karen Hauer takes on the role of Mavis, the teacher and mentor guiding the mismatched group.

Karen’s Return To The Stage

After 14 years on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, Karen said, “I’m so pleased to be performing in this brand-new production of Stepping Out. It’s a play about ordinary people achieving extraordinary things through dance and in the role of their teacher and mentor, it certainly resonates with me. I’m looking forward to dusting off my tap shoes and working with a great company of actors and dancers to bring this heart-warming, feel-good comedy to the stage.”

Directors Excitement

Director Chris Jordan added, “I am absolutely delighted to have Karen join us for Stepping Out this summer. We’re going to have so much fun, as will our audiences. Karen is such a well-loved dancer from her years working on Strictly as a teacher and mentor to so many different partners, and that is why this role, in this play, is such a great fit for her.”

Behind The Production

The production is brought to Bromley by Eastbourne Theatres and Trafalgar Entertainment, known for their recent successes including The Invisible Man and The Play What I Wrote. Further casting details are expected to be announced soon.
