Chaos on M27: Three Lanes Shut After Horror Crash Near Portsmouth
Three lanes on the M27 eastbound are still blocked tonight following a shocking crash near Portsmouth. The stretch between junctions 11 and 12 was shut down by Police and Highways England after the smash just after 9pm Friday.
Sportscar Flips Multiple Times in Night Crash
A blue Hyundai Coupe sports car flipped several times before overturning close to Down End Road. Fire crews from Fareham rushed to the scene just before junction 12 to make the area safe.
Major Delays Expected Until Early Morning
A Highways England spokesperson warned lanes are unlikely to reopen before 4am. The accident happened where the motorway narrows from four lanes down to three, blocking the two inside lanes.
Driver Rushed to Hospital, Injuries Unknown
“We were called to the incident to make the scene safe and closed the two inside lanes of the motorway,” said a Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson. “The driver was taken to hospital by ambulance, but injuries are currently unknown.”
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and expect heavy delays heading eastbound on the M27.
