X Down! Social Media Giant Crashes, Millions Locked Out
Massive Outage Hits X (Formerly Twitter)
The social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered a major outage at around 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 24. Tens of thousands of users across the UK, US, and beyond were suddenly unable to access the app or website.
According to Downdetector, over 12,000 users in the UK and 25,000 in the US reported issues. Problems included app crashes, timeline loading failures, and login errors affecting users in Europe, North America, and Asia.
Frustrated Fans Flock to Rival Platforms
With X out of action, many users took their frustrations to Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. Hashtags like #TwitterDown and #XOutage quickly trended – until they too became unreachable on X.
One UK user vented on Instagram: “X just crashed again — second day in a row. What’s happening?”
This marks the second major disruption in less than 48 hours, fueling fears over the platform’s stability.
Elon Musk’s Tech Troubles Continue
Owned by billionaire Elon Musk since his $44 billion takeover in October 2022, X has grappled with ongoing technical glitches and mass layoffs wiping out about 80% of its workforce.
So far, neither X nor Musk has issued an official statement. Insider whispers hint that server maintenance or backend instability may be to blame.
