Beirut Burns as Israel Launches Heaviest Airstrikes Yet

Beirut was rocked by massive blasts late Sunday as Israel unleashed its fiercest air raid on Lebanon’s capital since the conflict escalated last month. Fireballs lit up the southern suburbs, echoing across the night sky with deafening booms.

The National News Agency of Lebanon reported over 30 strikes overnight, while Israel confirmed around 130 projectiles flew from Lebanon into its territory. Hezbollah fired rockets back at the Israeli port city of Haifa, wounding several with shrapnel.

Rocket Attacks and Retaliation Ramp Up Cross-Border Violence

Israel’s military spotted at least five rockets landing inside its borders, causing injuries among civilians. The ambulance service treated ten people, mostly from shrapnel wounds.

“Hezbollah claimed responsibility, targeting an Israeli military base with the salvo,” says military sources. The group dedicated this latest attack to their leader Hassan Nasrallah, reportedly killed in an Israeli strike last month.

Israel’s bombardment, focused on Hezbollah positions in the southern suburbs of Beirut, marks its most intense assault since September 23. The group, backed by Iran, has been firing rockets into Israel to support Palestinians.

Civilian Casualties Mount Amid Chaos

A separate Israeli strike on the Lebanese town of Qamatiyeh killed six people, including three children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. Smoke and flames engulfed residential areas, creating scenes of horror.

In the coastal village of Jiyyeh, a strike killed three sisters and their aunt. Neighbor Ali Al Hajj condemned the attack:

“This is a civilian home. The biggest evidence is those martyred are four women.”

Residents described the night as one of utter terror. Israel intensified military operations in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah’s underground tunnels and weapon stockpiles. Evacuation orders went out for southern Beirut as more strikes loom.

Gaza also Under Fire in Widening Regional Conflict

Israel has ramped up bombardments in northern Gaza, killing at least 26 and wounding 93 more when airstrikes hit a mosque and a school sheltering displaced civilians. Hamas-run media condemned the attacks, while Israel called them “precise strikes on Hamas terrorists.”

The escalating violence across Lebanon and Gaza puts civilians squarely in harm’s way as tensions spiral. Both Israel and Hezbollah vow to keep striking in response to perceived threats, leaving residents caught in a deadly crossfire.

International Calls for Calm Amid Volatile Crisis

World leaders are urging restraint to halt the bloodshed, but the region’s future looks bleak. The recent flare-ups highlight the fragile stability and rising danger of a wider war. Civilians on both sides face growing risks as hostilities show no sign of easing.
