UK and Israel Seal Landmark 2030 Deal to Supercharge Ties
The UK and Israel are signing a game-changing 2030 Roadmap to ramp up economic, security, and tech cooperation. Today’s deal, struck in London by Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, promises to turbocharge bilateral relations for the next decade.
Boosting Trade, Tech, and Tackling Antisemitism
- The Roadmap cements 75 years of close friendship, pledging joint action against antisemitism.
- New multi-million-pound initiatives, including £20m in tech and innovation funding, aim to keep both nations at the cutting edge.
- Key focus areas include trade, cyber security, science, health, climate, gender equality, and research.
“The UK-Israel Bilateral Roadmap is a testament to the strength of our close and historic relationship,” said Mr Cleverly. “As we approach the 75th anniversary, this deal unlocks huge opportunities in tech, trade, and security.”
Trade Ties Worth Billions and Thousands of Jobs
The UK-Israel partnership already pumps £7bn into trade and supports 16,000 UK jobs. Over 400 Israeli tech firms operate here, injecting roughly £1bn in gross value over the last eight years.
The Roadmap builds on the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding that upgraded the relationship to a ‘strategic partnership’. Negotiations for a new free trade agreement are underway, aiming to smash trade barriers and boost innovation.
Global Security and Regional Stability on the Agenda
Today’s talks will also tackle pressing issues:
- The spike in violence across Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, with calls for de-escalation.
- Rising threats from Iran’s destabilising actions in the Middle East.
- Ongoing support for Ukraine amid Russia’s invasion.
- Backing the Abraham Accords to promote peace in the region.
“The UK and Israel stand defiant against malign Iranian influence and the scourge of antisemitism,” Cleverly stressed.
This landmark deal marks a bold step in cementing one of Britain’s most dynamic international partnerships well into the 2030s.
