Portsmouth Water have isolated a water main which is believed to have caused the hole to appear on the road.  Homes within the area have been affected. Stop/Go boards are in operation to help control the traffic. The sinkhole appeared this afternoon just after 2.30pm. It is believed to have been caused by a fractured 6 inch water main. Engineers from Portsmouth Water are currently digging down on the damaged main to carry out a fix. Speaking at the scene Rod Porteous, engineering director at Portsmouth Water said: ‘We have a team at the scene dealing with a burst six-inch water main. We are working as quickly as possible to restore supply to those effected. Structural engineers are expected to attend shortly. The A27 on The Avenue is already under intense pressure while carriageway improvements take place. Drivers are being warned to expect delays whilst repairs are being carried out. https:///youtu.be/JAoCFvvWdhk
