Fast and Furious-style police chase ends in crash on Portsmouth’s Lake Road

A busy road in Portsmouth remains cordoned off tonight after a high-speed police chase ended with a car smashing into railings on Lake Road, Fratton. Witnesses described the scene as straight out of The Fast and the Furious, with boy racers tearing through the packed streets as cops pursued them.

Volkswagen Golf crashes after wild police pursuit

The drama unfolded when a Volkswagen Golf, reportedly being chased by police, took a junction too fast, lost control, and crashed through metal railings. The car came to a halt, facing oncoming traffic. Two passengers were arrested on the spot, still inside the wrecked vehicle, both needing urgent medical treatment.

One passenger has been rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital with facial injuries caused by the airbag deployment. The driver was arrested after trying to flee the scene and is now being questioned by officers.

Witnesses describe chaos and man fleeing on foot

Fratton local Katie Jennison-White said her quiet evening was shattered by screeching tyres and a loud crash right outside her front door. “I was sat in my living room when we heard a crash, followed by blaring police sirens. After all the damage, a man in a grey hoodie and light-coloured shorts ran off,” she revealed.

Other eyewitnesses reported the silver Golf hurtling down Lake Road at over 50mph, chased by police. “They smashed through the railings and the airbag went off,” one said. Paramedics from South Central Ambulance treated two people at the scene.

Three men in their 30s involved – one with a known criminal record

All three occupants – white males in their early 30s – are now in police custody. Sources say one has a certain level of local notoriety in Portsmouth. Police urge motorists to steer clear of Lake Road as they continue their investigation and clear up the wreckage.
