Driver Jailed by Court after Hit and Run Killed Woman in Southampton

A man has been jailed for a year after he admitted his careless driving caused the death of a pedestrian. Daniel Rogan, 24, of Sandpiper Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to causing the death of 35-year-old Allison Steege by careless driving. Southampton Crown Court heard how Rogan was the driver of a yellow Mercedes van which was in collision with Ms Steege in Tremona Road, Southampton at 10.50pm on April 25, 2015. She was taken to hospital but died as a result of her injuries. Rogan failed to stop at the scene, only handing himself in two days later after police investigations had identified the van and officers were in the process of recovering it. Today Rogan was sentenced to a year in prison and was disqualified from driving for two and a half years. PC Mark Furse said: “This was a tragic incident that could have so easily been avoided if Mr Rogan had been paying attention to the road in front of him. “I hope this shows just how important it is for motorists to keep their eyes on the road at all times, because just a few seconds can have devastating consequences.”
