Garden Blaze Sparks Panic in Basingstoke Home
Firefighters from Basingstoke and Old Basing rushed to a garden fire that quickly spread to the ground and first floors of a Basingstoke house this afternoon.
Flames Rip Through Kitchen and Rear of Home
The alarm was raised just after 2.30pm when neighbours spotted thick smoke on Egerton Drive. Crews from Basingstoke and a nearby retained station raced to the scene. Thankfully, the property was empty at the time, preventing potential injuries.
The fire is believed to have started in the garden before leaping onto the house. It caused serious damage to the rear of the property, scorching both floors and wrecking the kitchen. The intense heat even melted the guttering on the back of the building.
Swift Action Stops Fire Spreading Further
Thanks to the quick response, firefighters used just one hose reel to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from engulfing other parts of the home. Two fire appliances remained on site as crews wrapped up their work.
Police Called After Forced Entry
Officers arrived after firefighters had to break into the property to tackle the flames. An area around the house is still cordoned off as Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police take over the investigation.
