Cheshire Police Officer Among Victims of Manchester Arena Attack
Tragedy struck Cheshire Police as it emerged that Detective Constable Elaine McIver was one of the 22 killed in the Manchester Arena bombing on Monday, May 22.
Police Pay Emotional Tribute to Fallen Officer
Chief Constable Simon Byrne expressed his heartbreak, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I speak about the loss of a serving officer of ours in the Manchester Arena terrorist incident. All our thoughts are with her family at this time.”
Elaine, 43, had a 20-year career with Cheshire Police. She started as a special constable before becoming a regular officer in 1998. Her work took her to Ellesmere Port, Warrington, and the Economic Crime Unit at Winsford headquarters. In 2013, she joined the regional organised crime unit, TITAN.
Remembering Elaine: A Big-Hearted Officer
Friends described Elaine as “big-hearted, bubbly and positive.” The force is providing support to her family, friends, and colleagues as they come to terms with the shocking loss. “We will not let evil win,” Byrne vowed.

Cheshire Police & Crime Commissioner David Keane added, “Our thoughts are with Elaine’s family, friends and colleagues. This is an extremely difficult time with great sadness felt across the Constabulary and wider community—from her Cheshire colleagues to the TITAN team.”
He pledged, “We will do everything we can to support Elaine’s family and our officers and staff. At moments like this, we must remain unified and strong.”
