Parks Reopen with Strict Social Distancing Rules

Four local town parks are back open – but only if you stick to the rules. Yesterday, Thursday 16 April 2020, the council announced the reopening of People’s Park (Ballymena), Ecos (Ballymena), Town Park (Larne), and Shaftesbury Park (Carrickfergus).

Residents Follow Guidelines – Police on Alert

The early response has been positive. Only a handful of locals visited the parks for a walk, cycle, or run, all sticking to the government’s strict social distancing measures. No trouble reported so far.

Key Rules to Keep Your Park Visit Safe

  • You can leave home once a day for exercise only.
  • Don’t travel unnecessarily; go alone or with household members.
  • No groups larger than two are allowed; police will enforce this.
  • Keep at least two metres from anyone outside your household.
  • Walk dogs on a lead and keep distance from others, including other animals.
  • Do not use the parks if you or your household are unwell or show Covid-19 symptoms.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly when you get home.

Park Opening Hours and Enforcement

The parks are open daily from 9am to 8pm. Authorities will keep the situation under constant review. Anyone breaking the rules will be asked to leave, with the council ready to call in PSNI if needed.
