£100k Depot Boosts Hayling Seaside Railway’s Future
A brand new depot has opened for the beloved Hayling Seaside Railway on the Hampshire coast. The volunteer-run line has chugged along since 2003 but lacked proper facilities to store and maintain its engines and carriages — until now.
Seaside Steam Gets a Home
The picturesque two-foot gauge railway snakes for about a mile (1.6km) along the seafront. The freshly built £100,000 depot at Eastoke Corner is right on the coast, giving the line a much-needed maintenance hub.
Volunteer Praise for Five-Year Effort
Volunteer 1 Robinson hailed the depot as “ensuring the railway has a future.” He revealed it was the result of a five-year campaign. Now, vintage steam and diesel engines can run more often, delighting fans and tourists alike.
