Southsea Grits to a Halt as Victorious Festival Closes Major Roads!

Southsea is bracing for a chaotic weekend as the Victorious Festival takes over Southsea Common, shutting key seafront roads from the Pyramids to Clarence Pier. Expect major traffic jams and diversions from early Friday morning through Monday dawn.

Seafront Shut from Friday Morning

  • Clarence Esplanade: Closed from 6am Friday to 8am Monday.
  • Avenue De Caen: Closed entirely from 6am Friday to 8am Monday, between the flood gates (west) and Jack Cockerill Way.
  • Clarence Parade: Closed nightly from 11pm to just before midnight Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Night-Time Road Closures and Traffic Bans

  • Palmerston Road: Southbound traffic blocked between Villiers Road and Clarence Parade.
  • Lennox Road South: Southbound closure from Clarendon Road to Clarence Parade.
  • Duisburg Way: Westbound closure for 20m near Western Parade junction from 11pm to 1am, Friday to Sunday.
  • Pier Road Roundabout: Closed between Gordon Road westbound and eastbound to facilitate departures.

Parking Bans and Alternative Routes

  • No Waiting: From 8am Friday to 8am Monday on Clarence Esplanade (from flood gates west to Jack Cockerill Way) and three spaces east of floodgates.
  • Ban on Parking: Entire Avenue De Caen, Victoria Avenue Spur, and Victoria Avenue (except coaches).
  • Other No Parking Zones: Areas on Clarence Parade and Duisburg Way near Serpentine gate and Common Car Park exit.

How to Dodge the Gridlock: Key Detours

  • Clarence Esplanade & Avenue De Caen closures: Divert via Jack Cockerill Way, Clarence Parade, Duisburg Way, and Pier Road.
  • Clarence Parade, Palmerston Road & Lennox Road South: Eastbound detours—Osborne Road, Clarendon Road, Burgoyne Road; Westbound—Lennox Road South, Clarendon Road, Osborne Road.
  • Duisburg Way & Pier Road roundabout: Duisburg Way detour—Western Parade, Southsea Terrace, Bellevue Terrace;Pier Road roundabout detour—Gordon Road, Pembroke Road, High Street, Cambridge Road.
