LPG Lorry Leak Sparks Major Emergency on Newport-Sandown Link Road
Emergency crews have rushed to the scene of a hazardous LPG leak from a lorry near Newport. Three fire teams from Shanklin, backed by support from Newport, are tackling the dangerous situation.
Road Shut Down as Fire Chiefs Take Control
The crucial link road between Newport and Sandown is fully closed in both directions following orders from fire commanders. Police from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have put up strict roadblocks at Blackwater, redirecting traffic far from the incident site.
Lorry Leak Detected Early This Morning
The driver spotted the leak just after 8am and alerted emergency services immediately. The fault was traced to a delivery pipe on the lorry during safety checks at Wight Farm Energy. Fire rescue boss Graham Orchard confirmed:
“We have put in the road closure to create a safe area for our crews to work.”
Evacuations Underway, Main Tank Isolated
The affected area around the lorry by the biomass plant entrance has been evacuated. Firefighters have isolated the main tank, focusing on controlling and stopping the leak from the delivery pipe.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely as they work to bring it under control.
