Major Gas Leak and Two Vehicle Road Traffic Collision Closes Isle of Wight Road

Park Road in Wootton remains closed tonight (Monday) following a Two separate road traffic collision in icy conditions and a mains Gas pipe that has fractured causing gas to bubble to the surface. Emergency services and Southern Gas Networks (SGN) have been called to the scene between Briddlesford Road and Lushington Hill just after 10pm a full road closure was put in place just before 11pm Fire crews from Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue services used cutting equipment to free a number of trapped people from a two of the vehicles involved These were left in the care of ambulance services and later transported to St Mary’s Hospital. Local Diversion have been put in place and are likely to remain until the area has been main safe.

A car Ford Focus has been left abandoned at the side of the road with Police tape wrapped around. The occupants are thought to have escaped any serious injury. Police are awaiting further updates on the condition of the casualties from doctors at St Mary’s Hospital. Recovery Contractors are on standby to remove the vehicles and assist in the clean up operation
