Man Arrested After Nighttime Stabbing Spree
A 36-year-old Portsmouth man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent following a stabbing in the city centre last night. Police are still hunting two other men who fled the scene after a Southsea man, also 36, was stabbed on Lake Road in the evening chaos.
The arrested suspect is locked up at Portsmouth Central police station, facing tough questioning from Fratton CID detectives. Lake Road was sealed off by a police cordon just after 9pm as officers scrambled to contain the scene.
Violent Scene Outside Cornwallis House
Witnesses report a heated brawl between four men aged 20 to 30 outside Cornwallis House between 8pm and 8.45pm. One black male victim was stabbed twice in the legs around 8.45pm before the other three men bolted on foot.
The victim was found lying in a pool of blood on Lake Road and rushed to southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton General Hospital at 9.30pm. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening, police confirmed.
Police Plea: Help Us Crack This Case
“We’re appealing for the public’s help to establish exactly what has happened,” said DI Dave West. “If you saw anything suspicious or witnessed the assault, please get in touch.”
One local said, “I went down and asked if they needed a blanket. There were three men who ran off before police arrived. The man was on the floor with his leg covered in blood.”
Chief Inspector Jason Kenny warned, “Expect increased police presence as officers patrol and investigate.”
