Harrow Horror: Man Jailed for 20 Years Over Abusing Disabled Woman
A Harrow man has been locked up for two decades after committing horrific sexual crimes against a vulnerable woman with learning and physical disabilities.
Brutal Abuse Over a Year
Florin Calin Trifan, 40, a Romanian national, was found guilty at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, 9 March, of multiple rapes and sexual assaults. The offences took place between January 2015 and January 2016 at the victim’s home in Harrow.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, has learning disabilities. Trifan was known to her and her family. It remains unclear how many times the attacks happened during this period.
Justice Served After Harrowing Investigation
The abuse came to light in January 2016 when the victim confided in a support worker, prompting police involvement. Trifan was arrested on 29 January 2016 by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command.
After a tough trial, Trifan was sentenced on 25 April to 20 years behind bars. He was also slapped with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning him from working with, living with, or being left alone with any female who has learning disabilities.
Damning Words from Investigating Officer
“Trifan controlled and manipulated the victim throughout his campaign of offences, causing her and her family immense torment,” said Detective Constable Angie Meadows.
“Throughout the investigation, he insisted his actions were those of a ‘weak man.’ Today’s sentencing reflects the gravity of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the public.”
