Basingstoke Men Busted for People Smuggling in Belgium
Belgian cops caught two men from Basingstoke, aged 34 and 44, on suspicion of people smuggling early on Sunday 30 October. They were nabbed as they landed near Nieuwpoort at 4.30am.
12 Migrants Detained in Daring Cross-Border Sting
Alongside the suspects, officers detained twelve migrants believed to be Albanian nationals. The migrants had attempted the risky trip across the sea—a dangerous journey often exploited by ruthless people traffickers.
International Forces Join to Crack Down on Smugglers
The arrests come after close cooperation between Belgian Federal Police, Border Force, and Immigration Enforcement. Authorities vow to strike hard at smuggling gangs operating across borders.
“Attempts to reach the UK by small boat are extremely dangerous, and people smugglers do not care about passenger safety,” police warned.
