Robbery Gang Jailed for Up to 19 Years After Spree Across Lancashire
A ruthless gang who struck eight times at local shops across Lancashire have been locked up for lengthy sentences. Their crime spree ended following a nationwide police crackdown targeting some of the region’s most wanted robbers.
Masked Thugs Rob Shops, Leaving Staff Shaken
The robberies took place between November 2021 and April this year, hitting Co-op and Spar stores in Leyland, Preston, Chorley, and Warrington.
Each time, four men – disguised with balaclavas and face masks – stormed the shops wielding weapons and threatening terrified staff. They stole at least £10,000 per raid, leaving workers traumatised and visibly distressed.
“These incidents have caused several businesses to lose money, with at least £10,000 stolen during each incident. However, the main impact has been on the innocent staff members in the shops at the time,” said Detective Inspector Denise Fardella, who led the investigation known as Operation Pintail.
“Many staff were left shaken and still feel the effects of the trauma today. We hope these significant jail sentences send a message: Lancashire will not tolerate this kind of criminality.”
Police Launch Operation Calibre to Nab More Robbery Suspects
The sentencing comes during Operation Calibre, a week-long push to catch Lancashire’s most notorious robbery suspects. Police will release details of suspects this week and are urging the public for help in tracking them down.
“Robbery causes lasting trauma, especially when violence is involved. We are tirelessly targeting habitual offenders who ruin lives,” said Detective Superintendent Nick Connaughton.
“Our message is clear: commit robbery and violence in our communities, and you’ll face tough consequences. We will catch you.”
