Two Teens Nabbed After High-Speed Scooter Chase Through Camden
Two 17-year-olds have been busted for a string of scooter-related crimes in Camden. The pair stole a delivery driver’s scooter, led police on a reckless chase, and were caught thanks to cutting-edge police tech.
The Stolen Scooter Story
The drama kicked off late on 29 April when a delivery driver’s locked scooter was swiped on Maitland Park Road, Camden. Fast forward to 1 May at 6:38pm, when officers spotted two males tearing down Pond Street on that very stolen scooter—speeding and ignoring police commands to stop.
High-Speed Chase Ends in DNA Tag and Tyre Deflation
The suspects didn’t stop there. They sped through Fleet Street junction, mounted the footpath, and raced towards Cressy Road NW3. Police coordinated ground officers, air support, and sniffer dogs to track them down.
Officers hit the suspects with DNA tagging spray and used tyre deflation devices to bring the scooter to a halt. The duo abandoned the bike and fled on foot.
Quick Capture and Criminal Evidence
- One suspect was caught immediately on Agincourt Road.
- The other was found 30 minutes later hiding in a garden shed on Mackeson Road.
Both had DNA spray traces linking them to the crime. Police also recovered a discarded angle grinder, suggesting preparation for more thefts.
Police Crackdown on Scooter Crime
“Police are working hard to keep the public safe and make the streets hostile territory for criminals who steal scooters, mopeds, motorbikes and bicycles and then use them for other offences,” said Commander Julian Bennett.
“Our policing activity to tackle scooter related crime is making a difference as evidenced here, particularly using a range of new technologies including slim-line motorcycles, DNA spray and automatic tyre deflation devices. Our message is simple—if you commit a scooter-related crime, you will be found and arrested.”
Both teens remain in custody facing charges of aggravated taking and driving away, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and further suspicion of scooter theft.
