Helicopter called in to search for driver who made off from Police in Ryde

The National Police Service Helicopter from Bournemouth has been called in by officers from the Armed Roads Policing on the Isle of Wight this morning (Sunday July 15th) after a car they started to pursue failed to stop for officers. Officers carried out a short pursuit though the back street of Ryde before officers lost sight of the vehicle and it made off. A helicopter asset and an Isle of Wight Dog unit from Hampshire Constabulary has been called in to search for the outstanding driver who has made off over grassland after they dumped the vehicle and gave it legs. The helicopter is now circling in the skies above Oakfield estates in Ryde for the wanted driver. An Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said officers gave chase after the man, driving a silver Hyundai, failed to stop after he was pulled over at Preston Close at 10.20am. They pursued him along Ashey Lane, Smallbrook Lane and Great Preston Road, before he abandoned his car at Sutton Close and fled.
