Car ploughs into pelican crossing in Newport

A driver has escaped serious injuries after his car ploughed into a Pelican crossing in the centre of Newport on the Isle of Wight. [data-ps-embed-type=slideshow] > iframe {position: absolute;top: 0;left: 0;}

The driver is understood to have got his foot trapped between pedals and swerved on to the wrong side of the road to avoid rear-ending other vehicles who’d stopped to let people cross. Luckily those using the crossing also escaped injury. Police have spoken with the driver and his vehicle has been recovered by Stag Lane Motors. The damaged crossing is being made safe by Island Road.
