Heroes Stop Daylight Rape Attack in Carshalton

Two brave members of the public have been honoured at New Scotland Yard for their gutsy actions that stopped a daylight rape and helped nab the culprits. On 7 November, Commissioner Cressida Dick awarded Joseph Gale and Nathan Featherstone with Commendations for risking their safety to protect the victim and catch the attackers.

Quick-Thinking Civilians Chase Down Suspects

Joseph Gale witnessed the shocking attack last year in Carshalton and jumped straight into action to halt it. When the two men fled, Joseph gave chase and alerted police with detailed descriptions before returning to assist the victim.

Nathan Featherstone, driving nearby, stopped to help as well. Seeing one attacker return, both men pursued him in Nathan’s van. Joseph then chased the suspect across rooftops, enduring an assault but refusing to let go until officers arrested him.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery and Teamwork

The victim herself wrote to Commissioner Dick, praising the “compassion, care and professionalism” she received from police. Specialist detectives swiftly caught the second man days later, leading to both attackers being jailed.

“I feel very proud of the members of the public who thought only about protecting the woman and apprehending the suspects,” said Cressida Dick. “They acted in true community spirit. They were courageous and compassionate in a truly shocking situation.”

She added, “This victim’s extraordinary courage and dignity have inspired us all. Thanks to these brave citizens and the professionalism of the Met, two dangerous criminals are behind bars.”
