Ex-Cop Jailed Over Fake Sick Notes

A former police officer has been given a two-year jail sentence, suspended for two years, after being convicted of fraud. The scandal unfolded after an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service’s Directorate of Professional Standards.

Fraud and Forgery Uncovered

Richard Williams, 39, who was once stationed in Barking and Dagenham, faced Southwark Crown Court on 25 November. He was found guilty of seven counts of fraud by false representation and forgery following a full trial.

The charges stemmed from forged medical certificates. Williams submitted fake doctor’s notes to the MPS between March 2015 and September 2017 to claim time off work.

Resigned and Ruined

Williams quit the Metropolitan Police on 28 January 2019 and is no longer an officer. He was sentenced on Friday, 10 January, bringing his crooked career to a close.
