Pensioner Mowed Down in Cranbrook – Driver Faces Attempted Murder Charge

A 70-year-old man lies in critical condition after being hit by a van in Cranbrook. Now, the driver has been charged with attempted murder.

Kent Police rushed to Rye Road, Sandhurst, at 1.25pm on Monday 2 March 2020 after reports a Volkswagen Transporter struck a pensioner. Emergency crews quickly airlifted the injured man to a London hospital where he remains in a critical state.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

Following a fast-paced probe by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, officers arrested 58-year-old Charles Wood from Rye Road, Sandhurst on 3 March. Wood now faces charges of attempted murder and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

High Court Appearance Set

Wood was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 5 March. Police confirmed the suspect and victim know each other, adding a chilling edge to this shocking incident.
