M20 Shutdown After Horror Lorry Crash Near Ashford
The M20 motorway is shut eastbound after a serious smash involving two lorries and two other vehicles just a mile before Ashford.
Collision Causes Life-Changing Injuries
The crash happened shortly after 9pm Tuesday and the road has stayed closed overnight. Emergency crews rushed to the scene. Kent Police say injuries are thought to be life-changing.
A Kent Police spokesman confirmed: “The driver of the van has been taken to a London hospital. A second person was taken to a local hospital. Enquiries and vehicle recovery are ongoing.”
Long Delays and Major Diversions
Motorists are warned to expect serious delays and urged to find alternative routes. Highways England say the closure between Junction 8 (maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone) and Junction 9 (Ashford) will remain until at least 8am.
- Follow hollow black circle diversion signs.
- Exit at J8, take A20 towards Ashford.
- At Fougeres Way junction, turn north and rejoin M20 at J9.
- Long-distance travellers should consider A2/M2 routes.
Police Hunting Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is probing the incident and wants to hear from anyone who saw the crash. They are also asking for dashcam footage recorded between Junctions 8 and 9 just before the collision.
