Swindon Police Crack Down on Knife Crime in Major Operation

Swindon cops launched a fierce three-day crackdown targeting suspected knife carriers as part of Operation Sceptre, the national week focused on tackling knife crime head-on. The Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Teams, backed by Special Constables and the Fortitude Team, hit the streets in patrol cars, on foot, and even by bike.

30 Stop Searches Lead to Drug Seizures

Over 30 stop-and-searches were carried out across Swindon. While weapons were scarce, officers seized several cannabis drugs, which are now under further investigation. Sgt Richard Fay of the Swindon Central South Neighbourhood Team welcomed the results.

“The low number of weapons found should reassure the community that Swindon remains one of the safest areas in the country,” Fay said. “But we will keep bringing anyone carrying weapons to justice.”

Man Charged With Assault and Knife Possession

During the operation on 13 November, 25-year-old Mandeep Bansal from Bodiam Drive, Toothill, was arrested. He faces two charges for assaulting police officers and one for possessing a knife in public. He’s also under investigation for allegedly possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Bansal was released on unconditional bail and is set to appear in magistrates’ court on 13 January 2021.
