Two Sentenced to Over 12 Years for Brutal Luton Gang Attack
Stephen O’Dell, 29, and Samad Ali, 22—both homeless—have been locked up for 12 years and four months each at Reading Crown Court. The pair pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a savage stabbing in Luton.
Late-Night Stabbing Leaves Victim Scarred for Life
The terrifying attack happened just after 2am on 31 October 2019 at Carlton Crescent, Luton. Police raced to the scene after a man was stabbed. The victim, rushed to hospital, suffered life-changing injuries.
Witnesses reported multiple people running from the area. At the scene, officers found a spent bullet casing, a bullet, and a blood-covered black balaclava.
Forensics Crack the Case
O’Dell was forensically linked to the balaclava. When Ali was arrested, he had a blood-stained necklace matching the victim’s blood. Forensics confirmed the blood belonged to the victim.

Detective Inspector Iain Macpherson praised the investigation: “This was a complex investigation, but we are glad Ali and O’Dell pleaded guilty and will spend a significant amount of time behind bars. Knife crime and weapons offences are taken seriously. The victim was fortunate to survive this horrific attack.”
Bedfordshire Police Step Up Knife Crime Crackdown
The sentencing happens as Bedfordshire Police join the national knife crime campaign, Operation Sceptre. Officers are carrying out weapons sweeps, working with knife retailers, and conducting high-visibility patrols.
