Police hunt thug who shoved 71-year-old to rob cash and card in Hackney

Shocking petrol station mugging

A 71-year-old pensioner was attacked during a brazen robbery at a petrol station in Hackney.

The victim was withdrawing cash just after midnight on Monday, 5 October, at a Stoke Newington Road garage when a stranger approached him.

Attack over £5 request

The suspect asked the elderly man for £5. When refused, he violently pushed him to the ground and snatched cash and a bank card before sprinting off towards Stamford Hill.

Thankfully, the victim escaped serious injury but was left shaken and distressed. No hospital treatment was needed.

Police release mugshot and plea for info

Detectives have now issued a photo of the man they want to trace.

“This cowardly attack left the victim shocked and upset. We are doing everything we can to find the person responsible and urge any members of the public who can help our enquiries to make contact,” said Detective Constable Farhang Razavi.
