Drunken rampage lands teen in jail for six years
Bradley Mottram, 18, has been locked up for six years after a night of crime spree in Southampton that saw him guilty of arson, burglary, robbery and dangerous driving.
Rampage in Southampton Streets
On the night of 14 March 2020, between 11pm and midnight, Mottram launched an alcohol and drug-fuelled attack on the community. At Southampton Crown Court, he admitted to trying to break into four homes on Athelstan Road and Bullar Road. He succeeded in breaking into a property on Garfield Road, where he stole a Citroen C1 – though police later recovered the car.
More Crimes While On Bail
Mottram didn’t stop there. While out on bail, he committed a robbery on 30 July, stealing a car in Hamble and driving it recklessly. His joyride ended when officers caught him in Fareham. He was also found guilty of handling stolen goods from a December 2019 vehicle theft in Salisbury.
Harsh Sentence for Crime Spree
Yesterday (1 October), the court sentenced Mottram, of Verdon Avenue, Hamble-Le-Rice, to six years behind bars. He is also banned from driving for four years after release. His 13 offences include:
- One count of arson
- Four counts of attempted burglary
- One count of burglary
- One count of aggravated taking of a motor vehicle
- One count of robbery
- One count of dangerous driving and driving while intoxicated
Police Praise Tough Sentence
“This sentence reflects the severity of his crimes,” said PC Charlie Buckingham of Hampshire Constabulary’s Operation Hawk Team. “Mottram showed no regard for his victims during an alcohol and drug-fuelled rampage. He left many terrified in their homes and workplaces.”
PC Buckingham added, “The local community can now feel safer knowing this offender is behind bars for a lengthy period.”
