Brutal Assault in Cambridge Ends with Jail for Lewis Habergham
Lewis Habergham, 29, viciously attacked a woman in Cambridge after she rejected his attempts to rekindle their relationship last November.
Rejected Advances Turn Violent
Habergham saw the victim walking the streets and approached her, but when she refused his advances, he punched her in the face. Not stopping there, he followed her home, forced his way inside, and refused to leave despite repeated pleas.
Shocking Assault Inside Victim’s Home
The next day, the victim begged Habergham to go. Instead, he repeatedly kicked her in the face as she sat on the floor. He then grabbed an ashtray, poured its contents into her mouth, and threw it at her head. Before leaving, Habergham stole a bottle of Versace aftershave.
Justice Served with Prison Sentence
Habergham was arrested the following day. He admitted to breaching a restraining order, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), assault, and theft. The 29-year-old from Histon Road, Cambridge, was jailed for three years and 18 weeks at Peterborough Crown Court.
Detective Sergeant Mike Barnshaw said: “This was a particularly nasty assault and I would like to applaud the courage shown by the victim throughout her ordeal.
“No-one deserves to be attacked, especially in their own home, and I am happy we were able to bring Habergham to justice before he was able to do any more harm.”
“Tackling domestic abuse remains a force priority and I hope this sentence sends a clear message that we are there for victims and will do all we can to protect them.”
